Hello, Members

Recently, PAD Newsletter Editor Lori Ann asked me, “When are you going to write for PAD Newsletter?”  I replied,” Already, time goes flying”   Looks like I am writing this as my last message as president to our PAD members.  First of all, I deeply want to express many thanks to all members for their times, their volunteerism, their involvement with social events, and their contributions with our club. 

This is a message of thanks to all that I served four years as President to the deaf/hard of hearing people I have loved so well. It fills me with emotion I cannot express.  I have witnessed the great change from old PAD to new PAD and it recognized as one of the best deaf clubs in USA.  We should be proud of it.  At this time, there are some things you have to do to keep the club going.  You are facing a new world, a world of rapid change. We are facing fast changes with new technology and it is going to overwhelm you; and at the same time, it will make your life the most exciting of all time.  As you can see in our club, we have added two videophones, new TV flat screens, projector, security cameras, Wii, and Wi-Fi to keep up with technology for the members and guests.  Even many of us have cell phones to keep us in frequent contact with family and friends.

Now, we have to think and ask ourselves as members of PAD since I will finish my term as President on December 31, 2010. 

1. What kind of members are you are to lead? 

2. Are you reliable for our club? 

3. Are you able to give your time for the club? 

4. Are you capable of volunteering for our club? 

These questions are messages to anyone who plan to run as our next President.  These are true tasks that we are facing today.   It is my hope that we should continue to give the same support to our next President as well as they supported me in past.   

Secondly, this time of the year holidays is around the corner, PAD will be very busy with a lot of events coming up, Turkey Bash, Senior Citizen Dinner, Steelers/Buffalo game tailgate party, Children’s Christmas Party, Active Christmas Dinner, Christmas Bash, Thursday Steelers’ Football Night (Dec 23), New Year Eve Party, Banknite, Pingo, Wii League, Texas Hold’em League and private events.  So please come and have fun with the events.

Pittsburgh Association of the Deaf hosted Christmas in July 2010 on Saturday, July 24 to celebrate the summer Christmas with broken air conditioner inside the deaf clubhouse.  The event is chairperson by John MacWilliams. Enjoy to view the photos here!

President’s Corner

Hello Members!

I want to say that summer is almost over in September!! Time flies and soon Kids going back to School and College.

What a summer!   12 of PAD members and I answered to the call of the wild Alaska the land of Midnight Sun – 22 hours of Daylight.  We went on 11 days of sightseeing of Vancouver, British Columbia; Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Skagway, Hubbard Glacier, Seward, Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali National Park, Fairbanks which involved ocean cruise, rail and motor coach transportation.  Some of us saw the awe-inspiring blue ice of a massive glacial field, expansive grandeur of its wildlife and nature, scenic railways, helicopter rides, Dogsled/Dinner show, Lumberjack show, Old Gold Rush Towns, Indian villages, exciting breaching of Humpback whales, Halibut fishing, and Fairbanks River Tour

We were treated like as First Class in everywhere and we did not have to carry our baggage for 11 days.

I want to let you know that about 20 Pittsburgher went to Las Vegas for World Deaf Expo on July 18 to 23^rd. We all had a wonderful time in Las Vegas. Meet many new faces and old faces in the Expo. I want to announce to that Chris Holt and Amanda Primel got married in Las Vegas on July 22^nd. Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Chris Holt!!!

Also those 5 Pittsburgh men played Poker tourney in National Deaf Poker Tour. There total of 376 Deaf Poker players all over the world. Tom Brown finished 12^th place out of 376 players!! Congrats to Tom!! Chris Holt finished 24^th out of 376 players. Chris Noschese finished 26^th out of 376 players, Jeff Janaszek finished 35^th out of 376 players. Steve Eberle didn’t last that long. HATS OFF TO 5 Pittsburgh Poker players in successful Tourney.

As for the Ladies Poker Tourney Lori Ann LaSorsa, Cheryl Noschese and Mandy Lloyd they played well in the tourney. Mandy finished 18^th place out of 72 Ladies. Hats off to Ladies!!

We will have Uptown Block party on Saturday, August 28^th from 12 to 3pm. Please come out and support the Uptown Block Party. We sure could use some volunteers’ for selling Hot Dogs and Drinks. Come on out. See Larry Hast for more information.
