Hello Members & Friends,

Spring is here! Everyone is looking forward to be outdoors – enjoying yard work, planting, walking and much more! Summer is around the corner and the kids can’t wait for school to be out – they can drive their parents crazy all summer. HA!

A few months ago, we had a Kick Off and Open House as PAD became the owner of PAVRS. Please use our VIDEO RELAY SERVICE by dialing PAVRS.TV

Coming soon is a “Pop UP” Pittsburgh project where the Uptown community will host a block party on May 30^th from 1pm to 5pm on Gist Street and Surrounding area. Let us know if you are interested in selling items such as arts and crafts or want set up an information booth. Our club will sell hot dogs, water and pop. The neighborhoods have other events and various other programs scheduled. We want to work together as a community to help make the best for the Uptown area. This summer PSAD will host Kennywood on Father’s Day on June 21, 2009. See Chairperson Paul Mente for details.

The ASL Picnic will be held on June 6^th at North Park. See Lea Marcoullier

PAD/GPCCD will host the End of Summer Picnic on Saturday August 29^th, at South Park. See Chairperson Jeff Janaszek

Our deaf club hosted Super Bowl XLIII party on February 1, 2009, watched Pittsburgh Steelers defeated Arizona Cardinals, 27-23, a thriller game!  Watch out for Terrible Towel everywhere in our picture album!

Hello again!!

I am back as President for another year.  I would like to take a moment to give a round of applause of my former officers for the year 2008.  Each one deserves praise as they have gone throughout the year working with me and also during months of remodeling from water damage.  I also want to take a moment to praise those who sacrificed a lot of time in helping me out in certain ways.  For example, the House Committee keeps the club updated in repairs, etc.  They are Charles Fisher, Jim Toner, Chris Noschese and Jeff janaszek; and the housekeeping staff, Monicah Muli and MJ Shahen.

In reviewing the year 2008, I want to thank all those who hosted various activities such as the fundraiser held in Mt. Washington, the Turkey Bash, Christmas Bash, Steelers Party, New Years Eve Party, Picnic, Bingo, Pingo, and the Holiday Partycommittees.  I am hoping for another positive year for our club and it members.  The most important thing for this club is cooperation and assistance from all the members.

Most of all, I want to remind you that this club is your second home and the members are like family.  The members own this club and your membership dues help with utlilty bills and other expenses.  It’s important to remember that Deaf leaders worked hard years ago to establish a club for us.  If it were not for them, we would not have a club today.  Think about that!!

If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to share them with me or the other officers.  We will be glad to help in any way we can.  I will take time to listen to your criticism or advice.  I hope you make the best of 2009 as I intend to do.  I wish all of you a healthy and good new year.  God Bless you all.

One more thing I want to say that we will have CSDVRS KICKOFF FOR OUR PAVRS on March 7th 2009.  Keep eye for post around PAD!!

Yesterday we had a election every end of the month of the year for new 2009 P.A.D. officers. Cheryl remain the President of P.A.D. for the third year in the row. Most of the officers are back from

PAD is having no-smoking day on first Saturday of the month and fourth Friday of the month.

Hi National Anthem in ASL participants,

Remember you all –

We will have a practice how to sign “National Anthem” in ASL at Pittsburgh Association of the Deaf (1854 Forbes Avenue – Pittsburgh, PA 15219-5836) on August 29th on Friday at 6:30 pm

PLEASE come and practice.

If you can not, please show up on September 12 on Friday at 6:30 pm at PAD.

On Sept. 19th – on Friday – All anthem participants must arrive at 4:30 PM or before 5:30PM – Right field gate on Mazeroski Way… All anthem participants – Pirates rules – arrive one hour and a half before game for security reasons.
